Bye bye DRE, DIREN & DRIRE : hello DREAL.

10 March 2009

There’s been a shake up in who to talk to on environmental subjects in French regions. The new “Directions Régionales de l’Environnement, de l’Aménagement et du Logement” (regional departments of environment, planning and housing) replace the former DRE (equipment), DIREN (environment) and DRIRE (industry, research and environment).

The change has already taken place in Nord-Pas de Calais. Other regions have until 1st January 20011.

The aim is to treat sustainability issues transversally when it comes to environmental policy, planning and construction.
