Simplified access to Euro Green Certificates and EMAS

30 March 2009
It will soon be easier for European Businesses to obtain the EU eco-label for their products and services and to access the EMAS eco-management and audit programme thanks to two new european regulations.

The regulation on “eco-labelling” aims to make the eco-label more appealing and simplify the awarding procedure. Despite being in place since 1993, total sales of labeled products accounts for only around a billion euros per year.

The regulation on the european Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS), hopes to make the system more accessible, efficient and appealing. Changes focus in particular on the needs of small businesses and organisations and simplifying administrative procedures.
