2009 Global 100 most sustainable corporations list released

6 February 2009
global100logo Corporate Knights, the Canadian CSR magazine, and the New York-based investment research firm Innovest Strategic Value Advisors have released the 2009 edition of their “Global 100 most sustainable corporations” list.

Launched in 2005, the annual Global 100 is unveiled each year at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It aims to measure which companies manage environmental, social and governance risks better than their competitors, making them more competitive in the long-term.

Three French companies entered the list this year Groupe Danone, Michelin and Saint Gobain. Their compatriot, Société Generale, was dropped, surely reflecting their  fraudulent loss of 4.9 billion euros in 2008- the biggest such loss in history.

Given the current climate, it will be interesting to see how these sustainability achievers fare. Watch this space!
